This is an exciting contract opportunity in Savage, Maryland with a leading telecommunications organization supporting large-scale network infrastructure and implementation initiatives. The role focuses on telecommunications engineering, fiber planning, network equipment implementation, capacity management, and site engineering across multiple locations in Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. The position will work closely with engineering teams, vendors, and field resources to plan and deliver network infrastructure projects.
The ideal candidate is a Telecommunications/Implementation Engineer with strong fiber planning and project management experience who enjoys combining engineering work with hands-on field activity. This is a great opportunity to work on real-world network infrastructure projects, gain exposure to detailed telecom engineering and implementation processes, and collaborate with experienced full-time engineers and vendors. The position offers a mix of field engineering, project coordination, technical planning, and administrative work, with the potential for increased flexibility once fully trained.

Required Skills & Experience

• 4+ years of relevant telecommunications, network implementation, or engineering experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent relevant work experience may be considered
• Hands-on experience planning and working with fiber
• Project Management experience
• Experience with telecommunications/network infrastructure implementation
• Experience performing site surveys and field engineering activities
• Experience with equipment, rack, floor-space, or cable planning
• Valid driver's license
• Willingness to travel between field locations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong organizational and project coordination skills

• 2+ years of Networking Architecture experience
• Experience with AC/DC power plants and power distribution
• Experience with power/fuse/breaker assignments
• Experience with equipment space planning and heat-load calculations
• Cabinet/equipment cooling and airflow experience
• Understanding of fiber distribution systems
• Understanding of T1/T3 and OC-3 interconnects
• Experience developing Bills of Material (BOMs)
• Experience creating cable running lists and ordering network cables/hardware
• Experience coordinating installation vendors and field teams
• Experience with telecom/datacenter environments
• Knowledge of network equipment, racks, chassis, shelves, cards, and cabling
• Experience with network capacity planning and utilization analysis
• Familiarity with engineering standards is a plus
• Experience with IFP, Nautilus, or FUZE is a plus
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

• 30% Hands-On / Field Engineering
  • Perform physical site surveys
  • Engineer rack, floor, cabinet, and equipment space
  • Plan fiber and cable requirements
  • Review power, fuse, breaker, chassis, port, and link utilization
  • Coordinate and oversee equipment installation
  • Verify fiber management, power/grounding, chassis, shelves, and cards meet engineering standards
• 25% Project Management & Coordination
  • Develop and track project schedules
  • Coordinate installation activities and maintenance windows
  • Manage installation vendors and field resources
  • Define resource requirements and resolve project roadblocks
  • Provide project status updates
  • Coordinate activities across engineering, vendors, and other teams
• 25% Engineering & Planning
  • Develop detailed location-specific equipment engineering
  • Create Bills of Material and equipment/hardware orders
  • Define cable requirements and create cable running lists
  • Engineer power/fuse/breaker assignments
  • Plan floor and rack space
  • Support equipment cooling and airflow planning
  • Determine when additional capacity or network relief projects are required
• 20% Documentation & Team Collaboration
  • Update engineering and network management systems
  • Maintain equipment and location documentation
  • Ensure network elements have appropriate identifiers and labels
  • Perform end-of-job closeout and quality reviews
  • Partner with engineering, operations, vendors, and installation teams
  • Ensure projects meet engineering, financial, planning, and operational standards
